Here's a difficult one

I run XP pro, 512 Megabytes Installed Memory, 1666 megahertz AMD Athlon XP, Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. 7VRXP 1.0
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz.

Every time I start the computer I can use it for may be two or three hours then coinciding with a mouse operation, (various, scrolling, selecting link, Go Back} The screen goes blank, (Black) then the ?puter reboots with a "serious error" popup, It then works ok after that.

If I start the puter and after a while leave it, when I come back it may have rebooted and left me at the logon and then gives me the "serious error" popup. All this happens only once per session. Any ideas?

Please note, the ?puter should realy read (apostrophy)puter.

And my handle wetterfugal? should realy read wetterfugal(tm} not (?)The board seems to have developed some sort of a difficuty.

So whats the Serious Error then?

If you can give us the exact wording it'll tell us whats going on....

Also try and switch the auto reboot off.

Right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced, Start Up And Recovery (Third Settings button down), Uncheck "Automatically restart" near the bottom

"Please note, the ?puter should realy read (apostrophy)puter."

Wrong.

It should really read 'computer'

Start > Run > Type:

sfc /scannow

Click ok and have your XP CD in the drive as it might be needed. (always is for me)

I will give it a try but I have mislaid my disk. I was going to attempt a repair for another problem I had and could not find it, It was lying about on my desk but it's gone. Now is the time for a cleanout. :-}

  wetterfugal? 18:43 07 Aug 2003

What am I scanning for?

  powerless 18:47 07 Aug 2003

SFC is scanning for buggered files, if it finds one it will replace the file.
