My internal dvd writer suddenly stopped reading audio CDs which were read o.k. previously, i.e. played o.k. on my pc(Windows xp). The same CDs are o.k. on my other pc.

Whilest troubleshooting the problem I came across the message :
Malicious Script Detected.
Object: filesystem object
Activity: Getspecial folder
File : Helpctr.exe

I have run full virus scan of the pc and found no threats.

Please help. Thanks.

Run an anti-spyware program such as Adaware or Spybot and see what they come up with.

Have run spybot and Adaware but still not working.

I would like to point out that the DVD drive can read/write other cds e.g. data CDs & some other music cds. It is just that it stopped reading certain cds which were read ok before!
