I have just recieved a PC from a friend which has XP home edition.

I have tried to restore it to the origianl factory settigns using the retsore feature.

1) I put in the rstore disk.
2) Restart from CD roM
3) Select language as English
4)Then I get multi langugae screen which requests I type start . It is not clar how to enter this command but I can just do it.
5)The next screen is in German and nothing else happens.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong ?

I think what you are trying to do is a System Recovery. You will have to ensure you are logged on as an Administrator with a password, (this may be what is causing the problem), before you start. Without specialist knowledge, it may be easier for your friend to do this.

Email received from sardinas:

Thanks for the feedback.
I should have explained more clearly
What I want to do is to restore the factory seetings on the PC which has XP home edition.

Are you able to help me with this ?

Sardinas, please respond using the 'Add a new response' box below the post; using the envelope at the side of my name sends me an Email.

Yes, to revert to the factory settings is a System Recovery. 'Restore' just takes you back to a time previously 'remembered' by the computer, used when it has a problem of some sort.
