Download and install the K-Lite codec pack, probably all the codecs you will ever need click here

Alternatively download and install VLC,this will play almost anything click here

is there an official microsoft one?

your title says a driver but your post refers to a codec missing.

What version of WMP are you using ? if not wmp 11 update to click here if already 11,try an install over the top.

The codec pack would normally sort this issue as it replaces missing or corrupt codecs.

Do you know what codec is missing if indeed missing or corrupt ?

Can you enlighten us to your exact problem.

What is the file extension of the problem file ?

Skidzy's suggestion is the only choice you need, the K-Lite pack is tried and tested and once loaded will play beermats...

It must be XP, Cause Vista's is built in.

DVD Decoder (MPEG-2 Decoder) Plug-ins click here

Have you Enabled DVD (plus all File Types) from Tools>Options>File Types tab.

As already pointed out, K-Lite's Audio and Codecs Pack (Full) will provide all you require.

Latest version now out at:

Ensure you select the correct speakers configuration in the menu of the various codecs.
