Help with Windows XP Pro Password please

  Never again 12:36 23 Nov 2005

My friends pc started up with a password prompt, which he did not need and was additional inconvenience.

We changed his password to nothing (blank) thinking that this would just boot us straight into windows, but it doesn't.

We still get the password prompt but press enter to get into windows.

The user account is not passworded.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Start, Run, type

control userpasswords2

and click OK. Untick 'Users must enter a username and password to use this computer'.

All went ok as detailed in your post but on reboot it asked us for the administrator password, which we can't remember.

Windows would not let us in until we changed the name to the owner of this pc and then entered a blank password.

Windows then let us in to write this post.

There was a change administrator password option at the bottom - do we need to change this as well?
