Hey I got this laptop over a year ago now and the screen keeps flickering whenever i turn it on. I can barley see anything on it. Can anyone advise me on what to do as a new screen would cost as much as the laptop (I think)

Thankyou to anyone that could help me

John

Can you boot into safe mode? Press F5 at startup until a menu appears.

If it's ok there, then it's probably a software problem.

Hi John. A flickering screen is probably caused by a dodgy connection in the backlight, and fixing it will almost certainly entail opening up the case which is beyond the capability of most of us. I think your only real options are to take it to a specialist laptop repairer or to get another laptop. Ask one of these companies for a quote click here click here

that doesn't work apparntly it may be a *loose ribbon calbe* does anyone know what this means and can it be fixed?

Have a look here to see what is involved click here. If you feel up to the challenge, then go for it. The worst that can happen is that an almost useless laptop becomes completely useless!

I wouldn't do it myself as the Laptop isn't useless if its only the backlight that has gone. Does anyone know approx how much it will cost to fix the backlight?

The backlight tube shouldn't be expensive - about £10 at a guess, but a repairer would probably charge between 1/2 hour and an hour labour to replace it. However I think it's more likely that either the flexible cable is making poor contact or a component solder joint is failing. A phone call to one of the repair companies I linked to above, or a visit to your local computer repair specialist should give a more specific answer. Have a look here -
