hi, i backed up about 450mb of data to cd-r before formatting a drive.
when i tried to access the cd the computer sees it as a blank disc.
looking in properties it tells me 0mb used, 192mb free. so i'm hopeful the 450mb of data is still on there i can recover it somehow. i tried to copy something into the 192mb space thinking i would then be able to close the session and get to the 450mb, but no luck. is there freeware available that will let me try and recover the data? thanks, kristian

This may sound like a daft question but, did you check the disk had burned properly at the time and all your backup files were on it?

BadCopyPro from jufsoft.com
Isobuster [do a Google for it]

They work in trial to prove the presence of data
but you have to buy them to get to keep the results/
A free one is PCInspector click here

hi,

Jak_1 - yes. will this make a difference to how i can recover the files?

jack- i'm trying isobuster and it can see a 450mb track on the cd, but sits at 0% when trying to recover the data. i'll try again later.
