I have plugged in my ext hard drive and when I double click it it says do I want to Format it and wont let me open it. It has everything I need on it, I will be lost if everything has gone on it. Please help.
Try changing the drive letter in computer management> disk management
Done that and it still asks if I want to format it. Please tell me I haven't lost everything, whats the point of backing up to ext drives if this happens. When in DM it said the partition was 'RAW'?
Not sure if there is another way but you could try this click here if nobody else can help.
Try using TestDisk to recover the old partition structure.click here
Thanks rawprawn what you suggested costs 70 bucks and not sure if it will work! Fruit Bat the one you said is very complicated and I dont understand how to use it. Any more ideas?
You could try Easeus Partition Master Home edition (free) click here
Had this happen once on Win 7. Plugged it in to an XP machine and it worked ok.
