hi, it all started when i booted up my pc and got a blue screen saying something about my ntfs harddrive and started deleting files, i managed to stop this but the nxt time i booted up the same screen came up with the files deleted.
windows then loaded and said winlogon.exe could not load as wintrust.dll was missing.
i ran xp revovery from disc and ran fix xp.
it went all the way through untill. restarted and windows was loading as theloading screen apeared, then it comes to a black screen with the mouse cursor and i cant do anything.
people suggested my g-card was to blame and i tried running in safe mode n everuthing but just get a black screen saying safe mode round the edges.
any advice on wot to do, i dont really want to reinstall xp fully as ill lose all my files.

my specs:
mb: asus 7something or other
pro: atlon xp 1600
hd: 80gb
gc: geforce 2 32mb
os: xp pro

If the data is important then perhaps trying a new install of XP will allow you to access the data on the old installation and back it up.

Is this a tool that is an addon to the installation CD, troubleshooting is getting harder to do as company's are adding fix tools to a pre-installed system.

Do you have a full installation disk and have you tried the repair option?

yeah thats wot i meant by fix xp

Did you do this........

1) Reboot your system. Go into the BIOS and set it to boot from the CD

(2) Put your XP CD in the drive and reboot.

(3) When asked, press any key to boot from CD.

(4) Allow setup to start.

(5) At the next screen, don't get confused. The option "to repair a Windows
XP installation using recovery console" is not what you want. Instead,
choose "Setup Windows XP now."

(6) Next screen, press F8 to accept license.

(7) Critical step: on next screen, press R to do a repair. Don't choose
anything else on this screen!!!

(8) XP will appear to be installing from scratch, let it run its course.
Provide your key if asked. When this process is finished, just d/l the
Windows Updates you need again

Are you getting a *STOP* error message?
