Dear fellow readers,

Need your help. Just wondering what might cause my HP pc (model no. HP PCw1068hk) to hang + auto reboot all the time.

Would a faulty integrated sound system causing a short to the motherboard's circuit so there's a faulty power management which evetually causes it to hang?

This is because this problem started a year ago and the sound was still ok but now, the sound is completely gone but the PC stops hanging and rebooting.

The PC specs:

PROCESSOR: Intel Pentium 4 520 2.8GHz
CHIPSET: Intel i915P
MEMORY: 512MB
CAPACITY: 160GB, SerialATA, 7200?
AUDIO DEVICE: Integrated Stereo Sound System
Dolby Digital 7.1?7.5??(SPDIF In/Out)
GRAPHIC DEVICE: ATI Radeon XE300SE 128MB (TV-out)
MONITOR: 17"LCD and Harmon Kardon 2.1 speakers

Cheers buds.

Could be that a wire has come loose. Not for the faint hearted to open a laptop...

Because of the amount of travelling they do it is possbile that a power supply connector has come loose.

Alternately there is a problem with the operating system

Goto: start > Run > type: shutdown /a

This will let you know if it's a hardware or software fault.

If it's a hardware fault, the PC will shut down, if it's software, it won't.

You could have a virus if the sound has gone too.. Last resort, try a recovery on the system.
