Help! PC dead :(

  Dazza99 18:15 26 Dec 2007

After what appears to have been a power surge, my pc doesn't work.

I have replaced the power supply but still nothing, not even a wirr.

Any other ideas bareing in mind that I am a complete novice?

Thanks in advance.

If using the same cable to your PSU, have you checked the fuse in the plug?

all the cables are working and have checked fuses.

Hmm, in that case it looks as if your motherboard has been fried. You could only have this checked out by taking to a PC shop.

I thought that might be the case.

thanks though

Ok, sorry I couldn't offer better.

Dare I say, Happy New Year!

Take everything back to the basics.

Take out the power leads to the hard drives, cdroms and floppy drive, if you have one.

If you have a seperate graphics card and your machine has also an on-board graphics connecter, take out the graphics card and use the other connecter.

Take out all PCI cards from the PCI slots.

If you have more than one stick of memory, reduce it to one stick.

Unplug all devices connected to the rear o the computer. Just leave the power in, lead to monitor, keyboard.

See if the machine will post.
