Good afternoon guys! I need some advice.

My bro has a HP dv9500 laptop. He was watching a film on his lcd tv earlier from the laptop via a hdmi cable, when both screens went black.

He couldn't get the picture back, so turned the laptop off. Now when he turns it on all he gets is a white/greyish screen which gradually turns to black from the outside edges of the screen inwards. Even when reconnected to the tv, there is still no picture from either.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I'm think new screen?!, but tbh i don't know what I'm on about; hense why I always come running to you guys for advice.

Thanks for your time and I hope your having a good easter,

D~

I don't think it would be screen because the output to the TV should still work OK I would hazard a guess at graphics

It seems more than coincidence to have so many lookalike failures.
Let's hope you still have warranty cover.

It is a long and live thread. Many posts from Dec.2008 to last one - April 1st 2010

In my opinion too many to be just hearsay!

Under Sale of Goods Act...Warranty is not limited to 1 year if goods are not fit for purpose.
Can be up to 6 years in some case.

(that wording may have changed under recent EU changes?)

Others in Consumerwatch forum are more expert than me on S.O.G Act or try in digitalspy.co.uk forums for help on this issue too.

It is obviously a manufacturing problem with overheating.
