help with new xp install

  lesmond 13:37 26 May 2004

I have a AMD-Athlon 700mhz, spare pc, and I want to put windows XP on it, but when I try to install it, it gets so far with the setup and stops, I can put windows 98se on it with no problem.
Thanks Les

I have some times done this with an upgrade from 98se, put in xp disk and at prompts carryout a full install, i remember the prefered option is an upgrade but the install is good.

I have tried the upgrade option but the same thing happens! even with a reformat of the pc just freeze-up when it comes to starting windows bit with a blue screen

Is the XP disk a good one? scratches etc. Has it loaded before? I have had to use a second copy (purely for backup purposes) to install on a machine, possibly due to track read errors on the cd players? good luck

ok I think it may be a bios problem, but how do I find out? and how do I update it?

Thanks les
