I have just bought a Dell PC which has a Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme music card.

It came with no instructions. I a little puzzled by the sockets on the card. One says 'Digital IO' by it, yet the socket looks like a standard 3.5mm socket !

1: Can anybody enlighten me on the sockets...Whether are stereo/Mono etc etc ?

2: I have just bought a protools MBox 2 and would ideally like to take the output of the soundcard into the s/PDIF digital socket in the Mbox. Can my soundblaster card acommodate this ?

Your help would be most appreciated !

Try looking here click here in the support section. You should be able to download the manual if you haven't got one.

You need to upgrade to the I/O box. Same as the platinum breakout boxes for the Audigy. Loads of connectivity including s/PDIF. Your 3.5mm socket is a dual function socket either line in or microphone, I guess you have to switch it in the software. On the Audigy platinum there is a manual rotary switch to do the toggling and it has the Frankenstein 6mm sockets.
