Help-With my Shopping List Please

I have a certain amount of money to spend on some upgrading for WindowsXP and some help with the decisions and the best suppliers is requested.

A Flat Screen CRT Monitor 17in, PCA recommended recently a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 750SB but this is a bit expensive, has anybody any other ideas.

Flat bed scanner PCA again, a Canon D1250 U2, seems a reasonable buy, any comments please.

Keyboard and mouse, not too expensive, any suggestions?

Speakers, perhaps with microphone, I do not need Dolby sound type, just reasonable. Someone has suggested Trust.

Software
Partition Magic, amazon.co.uk a good place?
Diskeeper 7, Anyone know a good website please? I want to have a CD, not just a download.

Is there a backup program that will fully perform, registry settings included, with individual programs. I don't visualise wanting to backup the whole disc, preferring to deal with items separately and am not too sure about WinXP's built in version. Comments on my view would be helpful.

Personally I would go for the better monitor and do away with Partition Magic.
Win98se use fdisk WinXP use instal cdrom to partition drive.

I'm new to WinXP, how do you use install CD to partition without formatting?
