help - my ipod is dead!!!

I've got a click-wheel 40Gb i-pod bought early last January, and it's dead.

When I turn it on, the Apple logo appears, then a sign of a dead i-pod with an exclamation mark in a triangle, and the link to ipod support online. When I connect it to my computer, itunes can't see my ipod.

I've tried resetting it by holding down menu and select at the same time, but this does nothing. And I've downloaded the latest version of ipod updater which doesn't recognise that an ipod is connected.

Can someone please help asap cos I don't want to have to pay for a replacement!

click here for details of how to do that with a click-wheel model.

Presumably the iPod is charged, and if that's the case you should be able to reset it in disk mode. Don't try disk mode unless there's a full charge.

If that doesn't work it looks as if a repair might be needed, perhaps a new battery.
