help my internet connection keeps cutting off

Recently I've had my tiscali broadband pack through,and set up the modem etc,it works fine for about 10 mins and then cuts off,and won't connect again for ages,I dont know what the problem is.At first I thought it might be because I've connected the modem to a netgear router, but when disconnected the router and just connected the modem to my laptop with the cables,it STILL lost connection after about 10 minutes.Please help its driving me mad =(

Have you contacted Tiscali for help?
May be a problem their end?

I have contacted them,they said at first "you must either use the tiscali modem we sent you OR the netgear,not both" which I didn't think was true,unless im wrong.Then he went on to saying,he will send me some filters,as I only have two plugged in,but 3 phone sockets.So I thought I might get more sense out of Netgear,so rang them,they were helpful,and seem to have sorted the problem,but then after a while,"connection lost" again

Is the Netgear a cobined modem router or just a router? What model?

If you have phones connected to all 3 sockets you will need 3 filters, if no phones connected a filter is not required.

If netgear a modem/router then problems will occur as you're trying to connect through two modems then router. If Netgear is router/modem then just use the netgear.

What make and model # of modem

Change the following setting and see if it help

Access the modem configuration page and check if the “Keep Alive” box is tick or “Connection Type” change to “Always Connected”

Also see if "Idle Time" is set to 0 change to 3440

On the Computer Check the following setting

Lan Card Setting

Right click on Local Area Connection Display Icon on task bar

Click Status-General-Properties

At the top of display the type of Lan card will be displayed

Click Configure-Click-Advanced Tab

Click- Flow Control-Change to Enabled if Disabled

Click-Power Management Tab

Untick if selected "Allow Computer to turn this device off to save power

Network Connection Setting

Click-Start- Setting-Network Connection-New Connection Wizard

Select-Connect to the Internet-Next

Select-Set Up My Connection Manually-Next

Select-Connect using a broadband connection that is always on

it is just a netgear router.
i have connected the siemens modem (tiscali sent me) to the netgear router.
when i lose internet connection and try to connect again it says "it may be a problem with DNS".
i have contacted both tiscali and netgear,one word,awful!haha
please help

Modem Model - Siemens Speedstream 4100
Netgear Router Model - 54mps WGR614
