Help! Linux does not support sata!

i have currenly built a new pc
but my 500gb hardrive and dvd-rw are sata

i currenly had windows xp sp2 installed
but i also want a sepeprate os(operating-system)
on it so i have one for home and one for college

i dont want another windows xp os on it i'd rather have linux beacause its small and suitable for college

the problem! is when i run the disc it wont run because it cant find any ide devices

which i already know
but i can't really see why?
this would be a problem!

It should recognise SATA, mine does. What flavour of Linux are you using?

I use PCLOS 2007. I just noticed that the DVD is SATA, have you tried putting this question on the PCLOS forums? click here
