Hi
Im a bit of an idiot so hope you can bear with me. I need a PC. I need it to do the following:-
1. Copy burn CD's
2. Copy burn DVD and Watch DVD
3. Put digital camera pictures on PC / burn to dvd
4. I will be buying just 3 games -Age of Empires 3, Total war and International cricket captain. I need these to play well, not slow etc. Will not be gaming on line. 17” screen ok?
Don’t want to go spend loads, just mid range?…..i would like Age of Empires to run well………any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

Suggested spec:

Athlon 64 3000+

1 GB ram

160GB hard disk

On a decent motherboard you will get this lot for under £300.

Then you need to add a couple of optical drives (DVD / DVD RW) - another £60 or so.

A capapble graphics card will probably cost you another £120 or so I expect but I don't know about gaming so can't comment.

I have that... although I didn't get the free printer.

I also liked this one click here

Both fall within Diodorus Siculus' suggested spec and both will play your games well.

Have you tried MESH??

Hi Treptow
I would take a look at one of these

Personally, I wouldn't touch Packard Bell with a bargepole, but that's just me.
My son has 2 of the games you mention - Age.. and Cricket... and they both run superbly on a system with less specs. than the ones in the link.
Happy hunting!

Thanks Comrades! Mutch Appreciated

Im looking at the following

AMD Athlon 64Bit 3000+ Socket 754
1024MB DDR
16x DVD±R/DVD±RW Dual Layer
ATi Radeon 9800 PRO 256Mb
AG Neovo F-417 17' LCD Screen 12ms
160Gb 7200RPM IDE

Gladiator Computers in Derby? Im in Sheff.

That's a good system on paper with only one drawback that I can see - the processor is a socket 754 which limits your upgrade options considerably. If you can get a socket 939 motherboard, then you will be able to add a better processor in time if you so wish.

What's the price like?

Thanks for the advice Diodorus, £624 all inc VAT and Monitor and Windows

Your thoughts?

  Diodorus Siculus 10:36 06 Feb 2006

That's not bad all things considered. Can you get a second optical drive (a standard DVD ROM will be fine)?

The monitor seems to sell for about £150 around the place.

Can you find out what motherboard is in it or post a link to the system?

  Treptow 10:45 06 Feb 2006

Can you explain why i would need a second optical drive?

Stupid question ALERT!!!
I take it the DVD RW in the spec has 2 drives one to play another to copy?

Here is the link

Ok?

If you want to copy a CD or DVD, it is possible to do with only one drive [cf laptops] but having two makes it easier - one to read and one to write.

Also if you are playing a lot of DVDs / CDs it is best to have a dedicated drive for that.

The machine you are looking at is somewhat dated but nonetheless very capable and easily able to do all that you want it to do. It's only £349 on the site; how doyou come to the price of £624?
