Dear All

I need help with an excel grapth

i am trying to plot the following data

Year Reported Cases
1991 261,834
1992 254,683
1993 257,989
1994 242,213
1995 243,390
1996 237,669
1997 228,446
1998 226,677
1999 219,087
2000 207,228

i can get the Y axis correct showing the number of cases but I am trying to enter the year starting from 1991 but unable to do it.

I also want the graph showing the number of cases to start at 0 and the legend to show the value of cases.

Can anyone please help?!

Abs

I am presuming your data is a year followed by two data indicating no of cases for something and the graph compares the incidence. Try the following. Post again if any questions.

Arrange your data in three columns, year, reported, cases. Select the data in the reported and cases column. Click on the chart Wizard, pick the column bar chart, click next button. Click the series tab. Click in axis labels box and type in the range for the cells which hold the years data. Click next button.

On next screen type in No of cases in Value Y axis. Type in Years in Category X axis.

Scott
Use the tabs to change the legend etc. When the graph looks how you want it to be click on Finish.

No sure I understand your data - are these pairs of figures for each year? I hope that's what they are, because that's why I put them down as three columns?

Scott.

I dont understand what you mean by 3 columns?

Could i use the series tab to enter the number of reported cases? so it would update the legend?

no sorry this is what the graph should be

1991 261834
1992 254683
1993 257989
1994 242213
1995 243390
1996 237669
1997 228446
1998 226677
1999 219087
2000 207228

sorry for the confusion

How would i update the legend?

Light bulb has just gone on in my head. You commas represents thousands not two comma limited lists of data.
This is going to be much easier now I know what I am looking at.
You have two columns.Select the all the data apart from the column heading in the Reported cases column. Click on the chart Wizard. Choose your graph. Click Next.
Click the series tab. Click in axis labels box and type in the range for the cells which hold the years data. Click next button.

On next screen type in 'No of cases' in Value Y axis. Type in 'Years' in Category X axis.

Use the tabs at the top alter the dialogue box and to change the legends etc. When the graph looks how you want it to be click on Finish.

Probably easier to create a fresh graph rather than updating the original.

If you have the Title labels, I wouldn't personally bother with the legend.

  suburban train 22:19 18 Feb 2004

I have done what you have said

but the legend is all in the same colour could be be possible to have the legend in different colours showing the diff cases

could i perhaps email you screen shots of what im doing

Yes you can send me the file or screen shots. Check your email now for the address.

Scott.
