I appear to have another CD-ROM on my system, but not a physical one.
Cotrol Panel / System / CD-ROM shows up a cd-rom icon titled 'Image Simulation'.

No idea where it's come from, can't see any associated programmes, and cannot get rid of it. If I remove it, and restart, it reappears.

Anyone experienced similar?

Do you use Nero

would be a good title to this thread. :-)

Open your computer in safe mode. Look at Device manager. Remove all CDROMS shown, there could be several. Restart the computer. If you still have the problem get back to us.

OK, point noted :-)

No, I don't use Nero. Just checked to see if my son had installed it, but he hasn't.

Thanks, MalcSP, I'll give it a go now.

MalcSP, tried that, removed 8 drives (?),restarted, and the Image Simulation is still there.

Found this on google, *Merlin software* makes your CD program run from H/Drive, much quicker, is this what it is by any chance?

So what happens when you right-click it and choose Properties, what happens when you double-click it?

  yogibear 14:59 27 Jan 2003

Djohn, no that isn't it, Thanks.
jazzypop, right click, properties, opens up just like any other drive.
Double click flashes up'Insert disk into drive G'
Same on all 3 (as I'm not sure which is which).

A prog called "Clone CD" sometimes throws in one of these... worth checking if it is installed.

Another program that will do that is Vitual cd.
