I have a machine that will not let me use a keyboard or mouse on xp via usb or normal connection, but if i change the hard drive to an old one which has 98 on it all works PLEASE can anyone help

very poor title and not likely to get much response, that said with the non working hdd have you checked device manager for errors?

A little more help with your query please?
Assuming that you have changed the HD to a new one and installed XP in that same computer?
Or
You have exchanged the HD for one which already had XP installed on it?
If this was a HD which was installed on another (different) computer there is little chance it will work because all the basic drivers apply to a different machine.

See if USB is enabled in BIOS
