HDD shows up in BIOS but not in My computer

I brought a new Samsung 160GB HDD and ghosted everything from my Maxtor 20GB onto it with Norton Ghost. Everything went fine for a couple of weeks but then my Maxtor 20GB just disappeared from "My Computer" and no matter what I do it doesn't show up, it shows up as the slave in BIOS but thats it. If you try to make it the Master it just says that theres No Operating System on the 20GB.. I didn't wipe anything off it and don't understand what has happened.

Can any of you help PLEASE.

It is possible that your drive cable to the motherboard might have become slightly dislodged, I would open the case and gently push the cable at both ends to make sure of a good connection.

Have check that. I've changed the 20gb to the master and 160gb to the slave and they have worked fine but if I change them around and the 160gb is the master and the 20gb is the slave the 20gb doesn't show up in "My Computer"

Does it show in 'Disk Management'?

Nope it doesn't, only place it shows up is in the bios.

I guess you did not forget to change the jumpers when you swapped the drives around??

lol No I didn't forget to do that. I just redid them again and still nothing. It looks like the 20gb will only work as a master and not a slave.

Just out of curiosity try plugging it into the other ide channel and see if it shows up there.

done that and nothing has changed,

change IDE cable and retry (use the one for the DVD drives)

Done that and now have both running but now I keep getting this message coming up on the screen every 10 seconds " COM Surrogate has encountered aproblem and needs to close" What the heck is that all about.
