HDD - formatting

  zzzgordon 23:19 04 Dec 2004

I'm selling my current PC and have cleared all my personal info and files off it.

is there a program i can run to fully delete all files (mainly excel and word files) from my pc or do i have to fully reformat my hdd or use the FDISK command ?

Depending on the make of your HDD, the manufacturers web site's support section or more specifically, the download section would probably contain a utility that writes zero values across all of your HDD. That would be sufficient for the casual undelete utilities commonly available, bit not for the serious spooks, government or otherwise.

Oh, and I remember seeing some full program on PC Advisor magazines CD/DVD which does file shredding as well ~ CWShredder I think. But I have not used it ~ maybe others who have can comment.

CW Shredder does not shred files! It gets rid of cool web search spyware.

A Format should be good enough but if your really worried then these free progs will do the trick.

Thanks Fruit Bat /\0/\ re: CW Shredder

I was thinking of PC Pro's Nov 2004 CD with WinCleaner "Destroy-it".

zzzgordon, hope there's enough suggestions for u now.

Download kill disk - it will reformat shred and even delete any partitions
