HD TV as laptop monitor, help.

  dezi 20:15 19 Apr 2007

Thinking in terms of plug and play I bought a 5 meter monitor cable, VGA 15pin male - male to join my XP laptop with my HD 1080p TV. I am not getting any results at all on my TV.
My TV manual shows a PC set up with this cable and ports but that's all. I don't have a laptop manual, and don't know if software or other PC settings are required.
Thinking the cable may be faulty I checked the pin continuity and is ok.
I will appreciate any step by step suggestions that I could try in order to get my TV working as the monitor.

Find the TV's native resolution and output from the laptop at that.

I would try to see if theres a selection for the VGA connector. What I mean is my TV you can select TV obviously, Freeview, AV1, AV2, SCART1 and SCART2. Perhaps you have a setting for VGA?

Have you switched to external display?

To shift the display to the vga out port on a laptop you usually have to use a Function key to toggle the display to laptop screen, external display or both. On my Tosh its Function F5. (Look for a symbol on the function keys of a laptop/screen)
