The Cache figure relates to the temporary memory on the HD. Theoretically a larger figure here meams minutely faster seek/write in some situations because the HD does some second-guessing predicting the next activity.
In fact the three examples do much the same thing the choice is between a larger cache and whether to buy the OEM version which is a plain box containing just the HD, or A fancier box with an instruction sheet a data cable and a packet of small screws. BUT note this one has the longer seek time - 11ms
Just had an email back from Compaq (HP) that any of those HD would be OK for my machine. Just need to make my mind up which one of these to buy: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB SATA II 7200rpm 16Mb Cache 11ms 300Mb/s
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB SATA II 7200rpm 8Mb Cache 11ms 300Mb/s
Western Digital Caviar SE16 250Gb 16Mb Cache Hard Disk Drive SATAII 300MB/s <8.9ms 7200rpm -
