I have used killdisk and I now need to format the drive.
I didn't think of the how to format before doing the killing it.
I did think it would come back to doss after a restart but the screen is blank.
D drive was untouched where the recovery Partition is.
I have No Vista disk only a recovery until the drive is formatted.
I have my old pc runing is there any thing I can download to set it up or have have I totally ruind it.

Do you have a revovery cd/dvd? If so put it in the drive before you boot up. You may need to change the boot sequence in the BIOS.

IDE, SATA, 3.5" or laptop drive?

If it is the same type as your old PC runs. You may want to setup the drive on the opposite channel to the installed operating system hard drive. You could then boot into windows and format ( NTFS ) and repair the drive.

The put it back into the other machine and run from the recovery partition.

If you have a recovery disc there was no need to use killdisk, you should have just used the disc by booting with it as it overwrites the main OS partition back to factory condition. if you start with the disc in the drive it should still work. you do not need to format the recovery disc will do it all

Hi thanks for sugestions, it would not boot the original recovery disc.
I put an old XP and rebooted it that and that brought the laptop to life then I put the recovery disc in and took it back to factory settings.
I have not seen how to format or am I missing some thing obvious.

If you used Kill disk you do not need to format, the drive is already formatted and just filled with 0s.

A little hasty in clicking the green tick.

I looked at my HD in Computer this morning and D drive is not showing, It was 111 GB in size.
C Drive 139 GB.

What I Erased must be the 139 GB thats not showing.

The HD is a WD 2500BEVT 250GB SATA.

Looked in Bios and only one HD I ran Astra and Everest to confirm.
So was D part of C?

(Using KILLDISK I entered (Erase All Data)

I found this on the following on KILLDISK site

To be able to use HDD again you need to:

• Repartition the hard drive using a standard DOS utility like FDISK.
• Reformat partitions using a standard DOS utility like FORMAT.
• Reinstall the Operating System using a bootable CD-ROM.

I have just reistalled the Laptop and set it up.

I need advice on the above how can I format the 139GB partition.

OS Vista 32bit, No floppy drive.
Laptop Samsung R610.

I still boot through Windows Boot Manager after using Ubuntu and uninstalling it.

If anyone wants to avoid booting through Boot manager, try shutting down in Hibernate this will bring you back to the point of when windows was last closed when pressing the start button.

Using sleep mode leaves the stand by light on mine using Hibernate doesn't I just press start for a quick boot.
