Have I got the wrong router?

I've been happily using a 3com office connect ADSL wireless llg router for the last three years. The power supply unit stopped working so I decided to upgrade to a draft n device. to replace it I read the pcadvisor reviews and plumped for an eidmax BR-6574n. My internet supplier is 186K.com formerly (EFH broadband) and is supplied via a bt line through a micro filter and conects into the 3com router via an RJ11 lead. It works fine. When I attempt to plug the same lead into the wan port of the edimax router i get no signal through at all. Have i purchased the wrong type of router? If so, can anybody suggest a work around or do i need to sell it on ebay and start again from scratch. If so can anybody suggest a suitable alternative that is draft n compliant
