Possibly due to the fact its out of commission at the moment, being upgraded.

Why are scientist upgrading the LHC?

Probably they were disappointed that it didn't destroy the world the first time they fired it up.

This is possibly because they called it LHC and not DM (Doomsday Machine)

Of course all theses theories need to be tested and proved thus keeping scientists in a job until the end of the world.

... I've heard that they're in the process of downsizing it to the 'lhc'.

ie. the 'little hadron collider'.
