hardware problems

I've kinda posted this before, but no successful reply. Can anyone reccomend any software that will relatively reliably detect hardware faults. I am prepared to pay for necessary software, but I'm concerned about spending money on a dud product.

Device Manager will reliably detect hardware faults (all versions of Windows do actually... they don't boot or fall over). Unfortunately it rarely gives a clue as to actually what is wrong. SiSift Sandra is often recommended here but I'm not sure if it helps pinpoint the fault(s) either click here
