Hardware or software problem?

Hello

I am running win 2000 and this morning I started having problems.

Firstly my email program started behaving as if it were downloading mail with large attachments and took ages to download mail, in fact after quite a while of waiting nothing downloaded. When I tried to close the program I got a window saying the program was not responding and shut it down via this window.

Also a game I play often became slow and jerky.

Other programs were also very slow to load.

The internet was not affected.

I have run anti spyware and antivirus software but nothing was found.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or what I could do to locate the problem.

Thank you very much.

Richard

Do you need a defrag?

I have done a defrag.

I should also add that any videos shown in win media player is slow and jerky.

Hi again

Is there a way to check the memory from within windows 2000?

Have you done a clean-out of temporary files and redundant files - I use Wise Disk Cleaner for this job - others prefer CCleaner.

Be warned, CCleaner does a registry clean too - I prefer to do that separately with Wise Registry Cleaner.

Hi

I will try and clean the disk with disk cleaner thank you.

I tried to defrag last night, I left the defrag on all night, but this morning it had made no progress.

No doubt that you will have enough security but what anti-virus and security programs do you have.
If you do not have Malwarebytes[free] it may be a good idea to try it and update it before running it.
