Hardware failure contact vendor

I purchased a reconditioned desktop box Windows XP about 3/4 weeks ago. Last week after turning it on there was a message on a black screen saying "Hardware failure contact vendor" (or something similar). I shut it down and unplugged it and then it started perfectly. It has been fine ever since but today it has happened again for the second time.

I didn't take down the entire message but can anyone advise me if this intermittent fault is serious? Should it go back to the seller - I only have a 3 month guarantee.

Either take it back now or wait till you get the error message and then copy it completly, then take your PC back to the seller. It maybe nothing more than a loose cable or of course something more serious.

.... including any error codes.

Keep on rebooting it until you get message again.

As gengiscant suggests it could only be a loose cable or card or memory module but ......

Take your PC back to the seller with the error message.
