My brother-in-law has just called me to say his hard drive is 'empty'. Last weekend when he switched his pc on it started making clicking noises then died. When he switched it back on it asked for the boot disk in drive A. He has since took the pc to PC World who have hooked it upto another 'ghost' pc and have confirmed the hard drive is 'empty'. They advised him to get in contact with a 'data recovery' company for assistance (he knows very little about pc's and would like to know if there are any other anvenues for him). He knows this may or may not work and could also cost alot of money, but as he's got most of his family photo's etc on the pc he's getting desperate (hasn't done a back up recently)!!!
Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions (apart from backup more oftern) as to the next step for him to take.
