Hard Drive Won't Power Up

  liserini 14:27 04 Jan 2005

I have an extra hard drive which was connected & powered via an external caddy. The hard drive has just stoped powering up, I have tested the caddy with another hard drive and that works ok so it seems to be the hard drive. I had a few bits and pieces of data on the drive and wondered if it was possible to retrieve these...Please no lectures on backing up data, I already know I am stupid for not doing it regularly!

The obvious answer would seem to be the drive has died.

R.I.P the drive.

But I wonder. Do you have the facilty to mount the drive into the main machine?
It just may be a power connect problem.

As for the backing up problem - well an external drive is usually a back-up device. How big a chain of backed up backups can you get?

I have the facility to hook it in main machine, which I tried to no avail. :( does this mean there's no hope for any data on it?

very likely but leave this open on the big brains may come up with a miracle
