hard drive woes

hi all has any =body got any ides when i defrag my hard drive it defrags to 54% then shoot to 100% and says its finished it used to go up in stages up to 100% i have not put any more software on the system and i have shut all programes running in the background down my system runs fine with no problems so if any body can help i would be very grateful my system is 2x 60 gb hard drives leadtekti64 graphics card audigy sound card 768 m b ram ausus a7v266-e mother board win 98 se i have also run scandisk and then tried but still the same i know the saying if it aint broke then dont try to fix it my thanks to legolas and spuds for your suggestions

I've seen similar in windows 98SE when defraging a hard drive that has plenty of free space ie 6Gb Drive, only 1Gb used. When defraging, and it gets to the free space, it quickly shoots to completed. Conversly a hard drive with files "scattered" everywhere, defrag gets progressively to the 100% mark.

Me thinks that you havn't got a problem.
