Hard drive Not Recognised In "My Computer"

I have just installed a new Maxtor SATA hard drive in my son's computer which runs Windows XP.
When the computer boots up it recognises the drive in the BIOS but it does not appear in "My Computer" once Windows has loaded. If I go to System Properties, Device Manager, Disk Drives it is there with its serial number and it says that it is working properly. It is also listed in the Bios if I go there as the computer is booting.

It does not appear to have the jumper settings on it for Master and Slave which drives I have had in the past have.

What can I do to get it to appear in "My Computer"

Thank you.

Have you formatted it?
Download the Maxblast software from Maxtor and make either a floppy or cd bootdisk and it will sort it out easily click here

Sata drives do not have jumpers they are set to master.

Right click on My computer select manage/disk management. Can you see your drive here?

Go with thms

it should be there. Right click on it and open the wizard.

Thank you for your replies.

The Maxblast suggestion worked, I tried the other first but it didn't want to know!

My son is a happy bunny again!!
