  Jimmyh 09:15 23 Feb 2006

I've mentioned this noise before but now i have some audio.

I was running diskeeper at the time but this noise happens when most of the time when there is disk access.

File is about 600k.

Should I be getting a new one?

If that is the hard drive and not a fan, it is definitely failing. There was a post earlier with hard drive noises.

I have two Maxtors and have just started running HDD Health (free).

My HD1 failed recently (a 6L250SO) and was replaced with a 6Y250MO. Both original drives were 9 months old when the failure occured. Now the remaining 6L250SO is starting to make noises a bit like yours and HDD Health is showing various read/write, seek rate, spin up time and other errors, but the overall program says there are no known problems with the drive.

Based on experience of the failed drive I am suspicious of both the noises you have and those currently being experienced by me. Hopefully I`m wrong but I am prepared for the drive to fail.
