Have you created partions and formatted them?

If your using XP then right click on your "My Computer" select manage then disk management.

Right click on the right-hand pane of the new drive and choose "Partition" select the whole of the drive or divide as you wish. now select format. It will take quite some time to format, maybe an hour but this will be a thorough format. You can choose quick format, this will take only seconds. Once you have done this your new drive will show in "My Computer" and be ready for use.

Erm, no. never had to do that in the past when i bought a new drive. how do i do that?

I think Djohn has answered your question. I have used the quick format in the past without problems. As Djohn says, takes seconds.

Best to think first about how you want to partition it with a drive this size.

Job done. many thanks
