hard drive failure

just got a second hand tower for my son and the hard drive has died showing error pxe-e61 @ startup the hard drive is a samsung hd080hj i can try and track one of these down although ive heard they are prone to problems or i have had recomended a WD Caviar Blue 500 GB Internal hard drive - 300 MBps - 7200 rpm if i go for the wd will it cause me any issues with the motherboard or will it be a case of plug in and play the motherboard is a ga-k8nmf-9 any help would be greatly appreciated

It liiks like SATA 1 standard (or IDE, but better to use SATA) - so make sure the drive will run OK on SATA 1.

Might not be a dead drive check cable connections at both ends and power supply to drive before condemning the drive.

Also worth changing CMOS battery as dud battery will lose BIOS settings and it may be trying to boot from a network before drive.

For hdds Google "Cable Select" and Master Slave and hdd ribbon cables.

Also Jumper Settings for your Samsung.

But it is a 2nd hand PC, and you havnt fiddled with it, it may be dead.
