Hard Drive failure

I have had (thanks to a careless repairman) a hard drive failure. I can see it has burnt out but I was wondering how I could go about retrieving the data from it. I have had a couple of quotes but they are extreme in price and at this point in time I cant afford i. It is mainly prsonal data ie photos of my daughter, holidays etc.
Any help appreciated thanks

Repair company say its not their problem.

Oh dear - again I cry Backup, Backup, Backup.....

But enough on that. If the Hard Drive is genuinely dead and will not power up then an expensive option is your only choice in the absence of any backups. The drive will need to be dismantled in a Clean Room and the data retrieved. Not the sort of thing you can do in a shop or bog-standard repair shop.

Sounds like a you need to either pay up or accept your loss.
