Hard disk indicator light

  DP 16:08 09 May 2003

I put a new mobo into my computer. It all works! - surprisingly - except the indicator lights on the front of the box showing hard disk activity, power on etc do not work. I have hooked up the lines to the mobo OK - but the light still do not come on ever!

Any ideas? I know it is a small problem - but it is anoying!

Try turning the connectors the other way round.
ie +- to -+ if you follow me.

Follow Rayuk's advice and it'll be ok. Common prob.

Are you looking at the pin block on the main board the wrong way around.

The power light may be more complicated. Commonly the motherboard has 3 pins, only two of which are used - the other one is commoned up with one of the main two. Sometimes you get two individual wires from the front panel - sometimes a three pin plug with only two pins used. You may have to experiment a bit with them.

Thanks everyone - it's easy when you know how! I switched the connectors around +/- and the lights sprang to life. Simple - but I don't think that I would have thought of doing this myself in a million years.

Much appreciated - I can now bask in the glory of a successful mobo transplant.
