Hard Disk Cables

My dad is looking to buy a SATA hard disk for forwards compatibility, but only has an IDE motherboard. He wishes to know (and after a quick look I couldn't see any) if you can buy cables which have a SATA connection for the hard disk and an IDE connection for the motherboard.

Hi there,
you can't buy the cable you are looking for and I know you can buy an adaptor that allows you to convert IDE devices to SATA but I'm not sure if you can get one the other way around, try a google search for SATA to IDE and see what it throws up.

Missed this out, you could buy a PCI plug in card with SATA connectors on it, I'm sure they are available.

Hi, it is actually easier to do this the other way around i.e. use your existing IDE drives on a Sata motherboard.

However, these may help if you still wish to purchase a Sata drive for your IDE motherboard.
