Half od external drive missing

  Darthchaffinch 11:36 05 Sep 2010

During backing up to my seagate 500gb freeagent drive with SyncToy, the seagate appears to have halved its capacity somehow. Tried reformatting with no joy. Tried the Seagate apps with no joy either.
There's no option to extend the partition in disk manager.
Ideas welcome pls!

Seagate NTFS or FAT?

What operating system are you using?

"...the seagate appears to have halved its capacity somehow"

Do you mean it only shows up in Disk Management as a 250GB drive?

PS - reformatting doesn't make capacity changes. Only deleting a partition and repartitioning to a new size will do that.

(as in correct to your first post DieSse. I've managed to get it working (recognised) in explorer- but still only half of it.

In Disk Management, can you see the rest of the drive - possibly marked unallocated?

  Darthchaffinch 19:57 06 Sep 2010

nope, nothing apart from half!

Sounds like the Boot sector of the drive is corrupt, A Virus may have done this
