What OS - Vista or XP? 8800 drivers are not great in Vista.
Before I do this adman would that be a fault with my sound card or something like that?
Windows XP not using vista drivers the xp ones!

The first thing I would check would be graphics and sound drivers, it may also be a good idea to check that up to date motherboard chipset drivers are installed.
Have you tried looking for the latest drivers for your Audigy....I seem to remember there being a lot of people having sound problems with HalfLife2 when it came out.I'll have a look on the Steam forums and see what I can dig up....In the mean time look at this click hereA good few suggestions there.
Yeah looks interesting, seems like problem with some patch needed or something like that or sound card issues.
