GSA H55N DVD rewriter playback problems

Hi,

A while ago I installed a new GSA-H55N into a new machine, I have been experiencing problems with playing back DVD and CD's (possibly only burnt CD's, though not tested this enough).

I am getting a constant 'zzzzz' sound when I playback DVD's, the original sound is still discernable beneath this though. For CD's, I get the occasional glitch, this occurs when the green LED on the unit turns on. This makes me think it is a buffering issue, though I have no idea how to prove/test this.

In the drive properties, I have three (err, memory failure here!) thingies for the primary IDE, two are set to DMA, the other PIO. I tried disabling the PIO , and the drive stopped working completely.

I have also tried deleting the video codecs, re-booting and playing a DVD. No success. I've also updated the firmware.

My spec:
Intel Q6600.
ASUS P5N-ESLI.
MVIDIA 8600GT.
SAMSUNG 80Gb SATA 2.
SAMSUNG 250Gb SATA 2.
ABIT Wireless PCI-E card (disabled).
Windows XP Pro, SP2 - last updated Nov 2007.
Coolermaster Elite 330.

I have managed to burn DVD's and CD's which have played back fine - at least on other peoples machines.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Eric.
