Graphics in MS Word 2003 disappear when scrolling

Lately I've been having a strange problem occur when editing docs with text and graphics. I can see the graphics (bitmap) on the screen, but once I scroll down and then scroll back up, the graphic disappears and only the "handles" are visible. The graphic reappears if I press the "reset" button on the picture toolbar, but disappears again when I scroll down. I have done some fiddling, and found that the problem goes away when I lower the hardware acceleration of the graphics hardware (Control Panel, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshooting) to midway (Disables DirectDraw and Direct3D accelerations). I am running WinXP proffessional on a Pentium 4 with 516 MB RAM. I have also run the DirectDraw diagnostics which shows no problems. The graphics card is an Intel 910GL Express running off Intel Graphics media accelarator.

Any suggestions for fixing the problem (besides slowing down the graphics acceleration) will be appreciated.
