Graphics Card Choice - help please

Hello there

Looking for some friendly help on a choice of graphics card (my Radeon 9800Pro has just ceased to function).

My PSU has a Total Power Supply 360W (Voltage Max 340W) (Current Max 21.1W) (12V rail is 204W) - hopefully this is the right information to determine which card.
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.06.
Asus P4S8X motherboard.
1.5MB RAM.

The 2 cards that I have seen are:

Gainward GeForce 6600GT 256MB GDDR3, AGP8X, "Ultra/1980" Tv-out,DVI, Retail

256Mb Sapphire ATI X700 DDR AGP TV/DVI RIALTO Retail

So my questions are, would either of these be ok for my PC, and if so, which one is the better performer (mainly for online games such as Everquest 2 etc).

Many thanks for any help.

In my opinion the 6600gt is the better card.

And this card would be ok with my power supply?

I also prefer the 6600GT I think it would be faster, would the power supply be ok? Probably yes as the old card you had the 9800Pro also used extra power and the extra the 6600 pulls shouldn't cause a problem. But the only way to be 100% sure is to try it.

360 w psu at say 65-70% efficient = about 250w. The system will take about 100w and gpu about 70w. A little bit to spare. As Totally-braindead says "But the only way to be 100% sure is to try it".

What performance difference is there between a 9800pro 128mb and the "safe choice" of the ATI?

£125 is quite a big gamble on the nicer 6600GT if it's not going to work with my Power Supply.....

Thanks for all the help so far, much appreciated.

Overall I think in order of performance 6600gt > 9800pro >X700.

6600gt is the only one with shader 3 for newer games

Ebuyer have a 6800 vanilla for £105! I'm certainly tempted.

If you were happy with it you could always get another 9800pro from here
