graphic card change problem

Tried to replace NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4200 with 6200 agp. No problem fitting it but get no picture on monitor just "monitor status" on black screen. Dont get login, blue screen, low resolution screen or anything else. Old card was 128Mb new one 256Mb - told this makes no difference. Anyone know different or any ideas? Is it a duff card? When put old card back and reinstalled driver works ok (with intermittent fault). Thanks.

You're right, the amount of memory makes no odds.

Is there anything else that isn't happening when you stwitch on? Lights, fans etc...

What PC do you have? Branded or home build?

found this on google, worked for someone with same problem: the key could be if you have a bios setting for max vram, or possibly a power issue:
Power cable out
Push in the on switch (releasing all internal voltage)
Touch the frame of the computer (inside - and don't shuffle your feet -antistatic issue)
Take the card back out
Boot up with original onboard video
Go to system bios
Confirm 1st startup set to AGP
Change the meg to 256
Save and exit
Turn off the computer
Reseat the AGP card (push in securely - goes in a long way)
Put the monitor back to the AGP
Power cable back in
Turn back on
