GPU temp too hot

  Thatslife 21:39 19 Mar 2009

My new 9800GT 625M 512MB DDR3 DUAL DVI TV PCI-E graphics card is running hotter than I think it should. At idle it's 64C. Under load it's mid nineties.

I've run furmark and the temp has approach 100C so i have stopped the test.

I have also set the fan to 100% and this had brought the idle temp down (noisily) to 54C. I think this is still too hot.

I'm up to date with all drivers and have cleaned PC and run the usual virus on spyware check. My PC has a 120mm fan at the front, on at the back and one at the side keeping things cool........

Any ideas as to the problem?

sounds like you need airflow through the case, I have 3 120 case fans and a 120 fan on a zalman overhead bracket blowing down onto gpu and motherboard. its a 4850 equal to 9800gtx+ and is 32% idle.

That's the conclusion I come to. But I've plenty of cooling, see click here

card should be ok as nvidia go's to 130+, driver will slow the card or shut it down when dangerous. you should have plenty cooling with that case, only other thing is a better cooler for the card if it only has the normal one.

Too many fans can be like too many cooks, it spoils the air Flow. they blow against one another

...the arrangement of fans is supposed to create a pressure difference the aids cooling........

I'll experiment in turned them off one at a time to see if it makes any difference.
