Google Updater

I'm having problems with resource hogging by a process named "Google Updater". If I kill it in task manager the system response goes back to normal (XP Sp3).
I have disabled the service of the same name in Administrative Tools/Services yet the little beastie still launches itself intermittently.
Any ideas how to stop it?

Its not in the startup folder. Its not in the registry or AddOrRemovePrograms and I can't find an executable of that name on the hard drive.
It doesn't load from startup and there doesn't seem to be any pattern to when it does load. I have a browser (IE7) open most of the time.
I can tell when it does load as the system slows to a crawl and it can be seen in the task mangler.

Thanks for the link buteman. It looks like Google Earth is the culprit. I don't know how it was doing it but I have removed it and the problems have stopped.
